Social Skills Screening
A social skills screening is used to understand behaviors like difficulty playing with others, reading body language, recognizing the interests or ideas of others, and understanding sarcasm. Humans are social beings so it is no surprise that social skill development can impact a child’s life in a wide range of ways. Social skills are important for developing friendships, joining teams or groups, managing conflicts and communicating effectively. They are also linked to academic success. The screening can identify social strengths and developmental weaknesses.
Children may have delayed social skills for a variety of reasons, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, complicated adoption experiences, and exposure to traumatic stress. Regardless of the cause, the targeted assessment of social skills provides an overview of the child’s current level of development and recommendations for helping your child expand his/ her social world.
